Some of the most useful clues in human medicine are hiding in plain sight, in the animals who share our homes, our food, and our air.
When a dog develops lymphoma, epilepsy, or diabetes, it is not a stand-in for the human disease. It has the disease, in the same environment we live in, shaped by many of the same exposures. Studying those patients carefully, with the same rigor we bring to human medicine, can reveal things a laboratory model cannot, and often on a timescale that matters to the people waiting for answers.
That conviction is what brings Precision One Health together. We study how genetics, environment, and lifestyle interact to shape who gets sick, who responds to treatment, and why. Our aim is practical: to get the right intervention to the right patient at the right time, whether that patient walks on two legs or four.
The work is organized around four cores, which reflect how we think a modern health question should be answered. Translational Medicine grounds us in real disease. Systems Modeling and Data Analytics lets us make sense of complexity. Epidemiology and Disease Ecology places disease in its environmental context. Social Sciences and Medicine keeps us honest about whether discoveries actually reach the people who need them.
